| In its 33rd season, the SFBL had 23 teams play in 3 different divisions of competive hardball. The teams continued to play 12 regular season games with the top teams in each division continuing on to the playoffs. | |||||||||||||
|
In the MABL 18+ Premier Division,
the Fall 2008 Season continued to prove that this is one of the most
competitive divisions in this area. Five of the six teams that completed
the season were in the playoff hunt until the very last week of the season.
In the end, however, it would prove to be the season of the
Boca Red Sox who entered the
Premier Division after back to back Senior Division Championship. Managed
by Eric Lyon, the team
finished the season with a 10-2 record, only losing to the
South Florida Zorros, twice.
These loses were quickly avenged in their Semi Final game as they defeated
the Zorros 2-1 in walk off fashion. The Red Sox went on to defeat the
Miami Police Force 5-2
in the Premier Division Championship
to clinch their 3rd SFBL Crown. The Sox capped their season off by
defeating the Cape Coral Tigers
4-2 in the Florida Hardball Championship! |

The Sox were led by Alvaro Gomez
who had a lights out year as he led the league in 8 out of the 10 offensive
categories, and 3 of the pitching categories. Gomez finished the season
hitting .676 and tied the SFBL record with 6 HR's. On the hill,
Josh Remondelli led the Sox
as he finished with a 7-1 record and 47 strikeouts! |

| For the fifth time in team history, the Lauderdale Reds took home the Senior Division Championship Crown as they defeated the Miami Brewers 14-3. For the Brewers, it was a cinderella story for the third consecutive season as they won their 3rd consecutive Dade County Championship. The Reds, however, would prove to be too much for the entire league as they finished with an incredible 10-2 record and then out-scored its opponents 48-14 in its three playoff games. With the impressive season, the Reds have now decided to move up to the Premier Division for the upcoming Spring 2009 Season! The 5th Championship is also the last one under the management of Gary Lazarus who has decided to step down from running the team and will pass the rhelm to Victor Coronado. | |||||||||||||
| The Lauderdale Reds were led all year by Duane Espinosa, both on the hill and offensively. Duane finished the season with a 9-1 record, while striking out an incredible 94 batters. This would prove to be enough for a Cy Young Award. If this wasn't enought, Espinosa also led the league with 24 base hits. These accomplishments merited him the League MVP award!!! | |||||||||||||
| The Broward Black Sox, managed by Scott Ferron, completed a second strong year with a Masters' Division Championship as they defeated the VASER Lipo Orioles 21-11 in the Championship. The Black Sox ended the season with 5-6-1 but once again had an impressive late season run to win both playoff games and bring home a 2nd championship in so many years! | |||||||||||||
| Individually, Pablo Batista of the Broward Braves had an incredible offensive season as he led the league in RBI, 2B and Slugging Percentage. His 22 RBI and 17 2Bs are both Master's Division Records. The 17 2B's is an SFBL record!!! | |||||||||||||
